Canoe Polo Finals 2011

C grade  was Otago boys against Lucky Last
OB's had gone through the season undefeated so went into
the game with well deserved confidence, however Lucky Last had
come together well as a team in the last few weeks and it showed.

OB's opened the scoring and followed up with a quick second and looked to be
in control of the game but, Lucky Last pulled two back themselves.
Half time saw the teams locked at three a piece.
Lucky Last was the 1st to score after half time.
OB's replied and the teams traded goals until OB's went on ahead with four minutes to go.
Despite good pressure from Lucky Last, the last goal went to OB's in the dying seconds.

.
B grade final was John McGlashain College v's Water Rats
Johnnies had a slow start to the season after winning C grade in 2010
and getting promoted to B.
Adjusting the tempo of the game took some time and they suffered a few losses.
However after a few hours training and some great coaching,
went into the final in first place and as firm favourites.
Water Rats had other ideas and the social polo players came to win.

With one of the tightest games in a B grade final johnnies were trailing by one at half time.

The second half was just as tight.
Somehow Johnnies couldn't get it past Fraser's paddle.
Despite multiple shots, they only converted once to level with Water Rats
and a goal in the last two minutes was the nail in the coffin.
The young boys fought hard, but the wisdom and patience of the Water Rats to hold the ball
in the last two minutes, ran the clock down.

A grade final saw Cookies and Cream for the second time facing Old Men and a Lady.
For those wondering where the lady was, Stacey is number ??
It was a tight first five minutes with  Old Men going two ahead only for Cookies to pull back.
However late in the first half, Old Men piled on another three to go into the break 5 - 2.

The Old Men came out firing and slotted another two.
This meant Cookies and Cream had to change their game plan and to their credit they did,
putting high pressure on the ball and
forcing a couple of good turnovers to draw back to within two goals.
However with high pressure, Cookies left a lot of holes in the defence
which the old men exploited.
Calum Brash came back with a rocket of a goal shortly after, however it was too little too late.
Old Men and a Lady the victors 10 - 7
