| Tuesday
the 6th At 6am we woke to the wonderful smell and sounds of a camp fire. Thanks Alan. Day two tends to be flatter and less demanding than other days. A good time to swap around for kayakers who would like to enjoy the raft view and rafters to try their hand in the wee boats. |

Raft repairs take time. In spite of us all pulling together we do not make it on
the river till 9:30 am, more time slippage but, the raft
repairs hold. |

fish on the river? This teepee was found on the morning walk. |

| A
view of some of the fantastic turbidites: grey wackes with
alternating mudflows, (dark) quiet sedimentation of mud. Bridget calls it licorice allsorts. Here dotted with speargrass blooming. ( The camera was horizontal.) |

| The scenery is predominately green and "farmy" with some rocky outcrops and isolated patches of Totara high amongst the screes. | ![]() |

All day was wetish and cold, not unusual for day two
on the Clarence. The rafters have more weather to put up with than kayakers; exposed to the elements rather than cocooned in a cockpit, and the wind blows harder that extra metre or so up from the water's surface. When lunch came, it was the greatest and we made the most of it! |

| Let's
get this raft moving. The weather deteriorated further after lunch and rain poured down. It was miserably cold. The river was low here and the rafters spent a lot of time on the first two days jumping out and pulling the raft over shallows and off rocks. |

6:00 pm we have traveled as far as the first poplar tree
at Quail Flat. We move in and make the most of a very good camping site. Geologist Chuck, is interviewed by Pranjili. More work for both of them after a long day. |
