Clarence Trip 2004
Trip - Day Six

break camp and get ready for the final morning on the

and Chuck before starting out on what was a long day for
us all. Because of that extra day, several people had long drives to make immediately after leaving the water. Shuttle Bunnies are such wonderful people! |

far after Matai Flat the river braids and the country side flattens (think Canterbury
Plains). Pick your route carefully or you'll get stuck! Click for a larger view. |

| Taking
a break at Ben Alton bridge, pretty much the last stop
before the get out. It's only a ten kilometer drive from the get out so if you want to drop stuff off to pick up later it's a good place to do so. Make sure you leave your gear further out of the water than this, because if, following rain in the hills 48 hours earlier, the river was to rise suddenly, say from 30 to 150 cumecs in an hour or so, your gear would be washed away. But that's another story... Somewhere to the left of the bridge there are natural hot water springs, but we've never found them. BTW about 500 metres before the bridge there's an undercut corner on the left. Take care. |

| We eat, sort gear (more or less), stretch, make our way back to Ben Judge's to collect the cars, pack, say our last farewells and head off into Kaikoura for a meal. After six days of river traffic, road traffic feels way too fast! | |
